Clerestory Window Hardware

Pictured is an example of an antique clerestory window. Before the days of air conditioning this type of window was frequently used in large high ceilinged rooms to let the hot air out. The problem has always been how to open and close them. the pictured window was formerly opened with a pull chain with a tape balance to close it. As the building is now air conditioned the chain was removed for aesthetic reasons and the window is now non-operational. Today these windows can be operated with a crank style awning window operator in combination with a clerestory window pole.
